BICS 3.07 (apr 2008) and BICS 4.00 (2010):

In Q2 of 2010 a new version of BICS v4.00 (fully ERINOT 1.2 compliant) will be released.

Changes in BICS (more details see the release notes of BICS 3.07 and BICS 4.00):

4.00

  • BICS is updated with the latest ADNR data (2009).
  • Some 1st reporting points in Germany were deleted (because they were not supported by MIB-II).
  • Several bugs (discovered during the test period in 2009) were solved.

3.07:

  • BICS now fully supports the new ERINOT 1.2 message (needed for the electronic reporting duty for container transport in effect from 1 april 2008). The BICS user interface has been expanded with a search facility. The search screen can be retrieved in the selection fields for Places and Substance Names using function key F3. From the search screen the user can search for parts of the name or code.
  • The BICS user interface has been expanded with an input wizard. The user can use the wizard to enter a simple voyage in a number of steps. The wizard ends with the input screen, on which the user can view the data entered and then save and send the notification.
  • Some optional fields (air draft, passengers, voyage nr) has been added in the voyage screen
  • The CMNI report option has been added to the print options in BICS of a voyage (and its cargo).
  • NxMail application including the mail service is not supported anymore and it has been removed from the installation set (as of 1 jan 2007).
  • In the BOS messagetree one extra (country)node is added (so notices are grouped per country).
  • The BOS application now supports the NtS std V1.2.
  • The BOS NtS layout is supported (user can switch between 3 supported layouts).

Sending messages using BICS and GSM data is free of charge using the 0800 nr in the Netherlands. In all other situations the costs are not free and will depend on the (GSM mobile) provider used.

It is also possible to communicate using (mobile) Internet/GPRS/UMTS. The costs of this communication option also depends on your (mobile) subscription type and your provider.

At the moment Rijkswaterstaat is working on a Web version of BICS called ERI-Net. With ERI-Net you don't have to install any software locally and you can use an Internet Explorer to report your voyages to the fairway authorities.

For more information about BICS or ERI-Net contact the BICS help desk (tel.: +31-(0)10-288 63 90) or E-Mail helpdesk@bics.nl.
